Best Places to Stay in Albania

Modern hotel in central Tirana, Albania with cityscape views

Albania is one of Europe’s most stunning hidden gems, offering crystal-clear beaches, dramatic mountains, and charming cities. Whether you’re planning a seaside getaway, a city adventure, or a mountain escape, finding the right hotel can make all the difference. Here’s a guide to the best places to stay in Albania, based on my personal travel experiences.

Tirana

Start your Albanian adventure in Tirana at Arka Art Hotel, a stylish and relaxing stay just a short drive from the city center. In my opinion, one of the best places to stay in Albania. The hotel features an amazing infinity pool and a rooftop bar/restaurant with stunning views, perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring. Comfortable rooms, modern amenities, and a peaceful setting make it an ideal base for your Tirana adventure.

Pro tip: Don’t miss the colorful street art, the Pyramid of Tirana, and the nearby Skanderbeg Square. Tirana is also full of lively markets, cozy cafés, and cultural attractions, so plan at least two nights here.

Ksamil

Ksamil is an absolute must for beach lovers. I stayed at a beachfront hotel just steps away from the crystal-clear waters. This hotel is definitely one of the best places to stay in Albania. The location is perfect for long, relaxing days by the sea, and there are plenty of local restaurants and beach bars within walking distance.

Pro tip: Take a short boat ride to the nearby small islands, they’re perfect for snorkeling and enjoying a peaceful escape from the crowds. Visiting during the late spring or early fall is ideal to avoid peak tourist season while still enjoying warm water.

Vlore

Vlore is a charming coastal city that serves as the gateway to the Albanian Riviera. The hotel offered stunning sea views and easy access to explore nearby beaches and attractions. If you want both relaxation and adventure, Vlore is perfect

Pro tip: Don’t miss a visit to the Zvernec Monastery and the nearby beach of Narta Lagoon. Sunset views from the hotel are incredible, making it a great spot for photography and evening strolls along the coast.

Theth

For those who love nature, Theth in the Albanian Alps is unforgettable. I stayed in a traditional guesthouse surrounded by mountains, rivers, and hiking trails. It’s a peaceful retreat where you can disconnect from city life and experience authentic Albanian mountain culture.

Pro tip: Hike to the Grunas Waterfall early in the morning to enjoy the tranquility and avoid crowds. Don’t forget to explore the village itself, including the iconic Theth Church and the traditional stone houses.

Shkoder

Shkoder is a city rich in history and culture. The hotel was conveniently located near the old town and Lake Shkoder, giving easy access to museums, cafes, and cultural sites. Which its a great base for exploring the Albanian Alps or taking a day trip to nearby natural attractions.

Pro tip: Rent a bike and cycle around Lake Shkoder for stunning views. Make sure to visit Rozafa Castle for panoramic city and lake views — it’s one of the highlights of Shkoder.

Tirana

After exploring different places in Albania, we stayed one more night in Tirana. We stayed at another central hotel that was perfect for nightlife, shopping, and exploring more of the city. Both Tirana options provide excellent comfort and convenience, making them ideal for travelers who want to experience the city fully.

Pro tip: Explore the Blloku neighborhood in the evening for trendy bars, street food, and lively nightlife. Tirana is also a great place to try local cuisine, such as qofte (Albanian meatballs) and byrek (savory pastries).
